Like lead paint and asbestos before it, mold is quickly becoming a major factor in the real estate market. The public is gradually becoming aware of the dangerous health problems related to mold and the serious costs in repairing and remediating a mold-sick building. Stories in the media propagate this growing concern; with news about bleeding lungs in infants and high profile celebrities fleeing from their mold-infested homes.
The presence of mold is a huge strike against a home for potential buyers, even if the price drops well below the market value of the home. By buying up moldy, unwanted homes for cheap and quickly removing the mold, these buyers can easily resell the homes to new buyers at a much higher price. The difference has made some house flippers wildly successful.
What is their secret?
