The Players in the Mold Drama (Part 2)

by Michael Davis on March 20, 2009

In part 1 of this two post series, I discussed a couple players in the drama. Each player in the drama has its own position, and is uniquely affected by in a way that often clashes with other groups. In this second part, we look at other groups in the drama who are affected by in their own ways.

Employers: Employers who use moldy office buildings with syndrome need to be concerned with both the damage to the building and the welfare of their employees. Employers may be liable if their employees develop health problems due to mold or operations may suffer if employees are simply unable to work at their full potential because of general sickness from poor . Yet employees are also restricted by a budget. Mold remediation is not always cheap, but neither are lawsuits from employees.

Contractors: Whoever has designed and maintains your heating and ventilation system in your home or building is either your best friend or worst enemy when it comes to mold. A properly working system will ventilate fresh air into the building, and conserve energy while maximizing indoor air quality. But a poorly-designed system, or one that is not properly maintained, will contribute to by circulating , disabling ventilation, and collecting pools of moisture. As their clients become more aware of mold, contractors have had to think twice about designs and mold growth.

The Media and Celebrities: Mold affects everyone, even if you’re famous. Stories about celebrities with mold have captured the interest of the public and have contributed to the general awareness of mold we have today. You may have heard stories about , Erin Brokovich, and even Michael Jordan fleeing from their multi-million dollar mansions because mold has taken over their lives. These widely publicized stories have put mold on everyone’s radar, for better or worse.

Environmental Protection Agency: The EPA is one of the good guys in this drama since they are interested in protecting your quality of life by safeguarding the environment. However, they are often conflicted with who sometimes use chemicals to kill mold which are harmful to humans, animals, and the environment. Some moldicides and especially ozone generators that mold remediators use are at odds with the EPA. Fortunately, some methods, such as the naturally-occurring TM-100 enzyme, are perfectly safe for the environment.

In the midst of the drama, chaos, and conflict surrounding mold, my company, Guardian Preservation Serviceshas proven to be a trusted and reliable source for expertise, experience, and knowledge. We offer mold inspection and remediaton services that utilize breakthrough technology that effectively kills mold while keeping the environment safe.
