Louisville One Of The Worst Cities for Allergies & Mold

April 27, 2011

The Asthma & Allergy Foundation recently ranked Louisville, KY one of the worst cities in the nation for allergy sufferers. When the warmer weather comes, mold spores take advantage of the moisture in the air and begin to multiply. Mold can cause many allergy-like symptoms such as itchy watery eyes, scratchy throat, and nasal congestion, especially if it’s growing indoors. If you’re feeling symptoms or think you have a mold problem in your home, it is critical to take immediate action to have it professionally removed before conditions worsen.

Should Schools Be Forced to Improve Indoor Air Quality

March 1, 2011

The schools argue that this is a funding problem. They are trying to save money by raising the temperature in schools and shutting off the air conditioning on nights and weekends. These decisions contribute to the mold growth. Of course, more funding would also allow them to address mold problems.

Mold Will Grow on Everything – Except Fast Food

February 22, 2011

So how does the fried food hold up? Well, it appears to be unchanged, undisturbed by molds and bacteria. This is a little scary when nature itself does not deem the Happy “Meal” to be food at all. Or, as Mike Adams of Natural News puts it, “There is only one species on planet Earth that’s stupid enough to think a McDonald’s hamburger is food.”

On a map of Japan, bits of food were placed in a pattern representing major cities. The larger the city, the bigger the oat flake was used in its representation. Then, researchers impregnated the Physarum polycephalum mold on the flake representing Tokyo. Finally, they played the waiting game.

Mold at Ground Zero

January 17, 2011

What followed was an argument with the Bank’s insurance company over what actions should be taken. The mold had gotten out of hand and was no longer approved for human use. The insurers recommended the use of a biocide to treat the mold and the bank agreed. They implemented a program to remove all visibly moldy ceiling tiles and wallboard.

Mold Conspiracy in California

January 12, 2011

When James Marmon started working in the building in 2007, he noticed red Xs on the floor mats. Only weeks later did he find out why. Mr. Marmon had stepped into a moldy office that was causing employees a range of symptoms from extreme fatigue to nosebleeds. There were rumblings of inspections and investigations into the air quality, but not enough action was taken. Several other employees have complained with respiratory concerns and filed workers’ compensation claims with the union.

Alarming Hospital Mold

January 5, 2011

The rooms are apparently in an older section of the hospital and covered with a kind of wallpaper that can trap moisture and condensation. This wallpaper was a construction standard in the 1990s but has proved to be a sponge for water and thus cause mold. It is likely that some water intruded through the windows in these rooms and was absorbed into the wallpaper. After the drywall is replaced, the hospital plans to paint instead of use wallpaper as it does in newer sections of the hospital. It seems the hospital will simply remove the moldy material rather than seek assistance from a commercial mold remediator.
