Mold Scam Alert: Encapsulation, Sealants, and Mold Paint

Also called mold sealant or mold paint, encapsulation is the process of treating mold with a product that “glues” the mold in place so it cannot release any spores – rendering the mold powerless. This works to some extent, but encapsulation is not completely effective and should never be the sole means of remediation. Encapsulation is sometimes relied upon as a crutch and to compensate for a poor or rushed mold removal job.

The Biggest Mold Settlement

17 companies were included in the suit, but Crenshaw Lumber Co. Inc. took the brunt of it, paying 13 of the $22.6 million. Crenshaw supplied the wood to build the Gorman’s 1999 home. The wood used to build the house frame was improperly stored and mold was growing on framing studs by the time it was used for construction. However, as part of the settlement, Crenshaw admits to no wrongdoing.

House cooking is a mold sampling trick used by unethical mold inspectors to make your house appear moldier than it actually is. The sample is accurate, and it actually comes from your house, but the circumstances in which it is produced have been changed to inflate the amount of mold in the air.
