Guardian Preservation Services was recently featured on the PBS “For Your Home” special on mold removal. The episode centers on a 200-year-old log cabin that was moved to the top of a mountain. The cabin recently suffered winter damage including frozen pipes and a leaky roof that allowed water to intrude, causing indoor mold growth over time. Guardian explained the dangers of mold on health and property, as well as proper and efficient mold removal methods.

Fire Chief Laughs Off Mold Complaint, Fire Station Closes

October 19, 2010

Fox 8 in North Carolina caught Fire Chief David Taylor in a lie, or what he refers to as a “miscommunication.” A few weeks ago, a serious mold issue was discovered in the Station 12 in High Point. The AC units on the roof leaked over the summer, causing moisture to leak through the roof and dampen ceiling tiles above a sleeping area. The mold was tested and found to be dangerous. Station 12 was closed down for cleaning and the three firefighters were relocated.

Attic Ventilation Tips

While the more attic ventilation the better, more vents can upset the delicate balance here. I heard of one story where a homeowner tried to increase their ventilation rate by installing two different kinds of outlet vents. This resulted in transforming the weaker outlet vent into an inlet vent. Air simply short circuited between the vents, preventing soffits from drawing in air flow.

Arizona School Cleans Up Their Mold?

October 13, 2009

Mesa Public Schools has announced that it has restored mold-spore levels to a safe level in Red Mountain Ranch Elementary after parents and teachers raised concerns about poor indoor air quality since 2005. The school is now deemed safe since indoor mold levels are lower than those measured outside a building. The cleanup process cost about $50,000 with an extra $8,000 for testing. If this sounds like a lot of money, then consider how Oak Ridge Elementary spent $600,000 “investigating” their mold problem only to arrive at the conclusion that “there is no mold.”
