Inspectors found a significant mold spore count in the air and a large amount of slimy mold in the events. The building had a noticeable moldy smell. Employees have complained about “strokes, allergies, rashes.” In the last two years, three employees have had to be carried off by ambulance to the hospital.

Moldy Courthouse Creates Money Pit

Even thought the flooding problem has gone uncorrected, the courthouse has spent money on mold remediation efforts several times, but it just keeps coming back. This is either because the original leak was not corrected, or the mold remediators were less than reputable – or both.

Senator Attempts to Rescue Moldy Courthouse

The problems with the courthouse were finally brought to light when U.S. Senator Bill Nelson visited the building after receiving numerous cries for help from building occupants. After seeing the mold and experiencing symptoms himself during his tour of the building he vowed to “raise Cain,” “stay on their doorstep,” and “beat the door down until they get some action.”
