City officials condemned the home due to unlivable conditions. Thankfully, the family did not spend any time in the home, as they could have been exposed to serious health problems caused by the toxic mold.

Mail Stopped by Mold

A Colorado Springs post office has a mold problem in the mail room that is literally interfering with the U.S. Postal Service’s ability to deliver mail. Dozens of people have been given notice saying that they will not be getting anymore mail since postal employees cannot enter the mail room to sort it. These residents have been instructed to come to the general mail facility, about a mile away, to personally to receive their mail.

Inspectors found a significant mold spore count in the air and a large amount of slimy mold in the events. The building had a noticeable moldy smell. Employees have complained about “strokes, allergies, rashes.” In the last two years, three employees have had to be carried off by ambulance to the hospital.

Here, the school did the test based on a recommendation from the maintenance crew. The kind of mold found is not even the most dangerous. It is usually found on old bread and potatoes. It’s mostly harmless unless someone is immunosuppressed – which is probable given the age of the students. The report did not seem to mention Stachybotrys or other kinds of black mold. Still, the school decided it was unsafe and took responsible action by sealing off a section of the school and informing parents of the situation.

An inspection revealed a leak hidden behind the shower wall dripped into the electrical room where the highest levels of mold growth were found. Here, the mold infiltrated the HVAC system and spread airborne toxins throughout the three-story building. The firefighters have temporarily moved to a downtown station five miles away while the Fellowship Fire Station has been shut down until the mold can be removed.
