Mold Scam Alert – Microb Phase Process

by Michael Davis on April 14, 2009

This “news” is a little old but I wanted to see how it all played out before talking about it. A “ remediator” faces up to 20 years in jail and $250,000 in fines for defrauding three school districts in Connecticut. pled guilty to a charge of mail fraud after a lengthy trial.

School systems in Bristol, Manchester, and Easton contracted Schongar’s mold remediation company, “Microb Phase,” to remove mold in several school buildings. Using the “Microb Phase Process,” Microb Phase used a product called “Microb Shield” to supposedly remove mold.

Schongar deceived representatives of the school districts by falsely representing that Microb Shield was registered with the Environmental Protection Agency. He even gave it a fake registration number, 64881-3, if anyone wanted to check it out. He said that Microb Phase was partnered with the , when, in fact, the had no relation to Microb Phase or its product Microb Shield.

If the product “Microb Shield” sounds familiar, you might be thinking of “Microbe Shield” – and this is surely intentional as part of Schongar’s scam. Microbe Shield is a product registered by AEGIS Environmental of Midland, Michigan. Microbe Shield is the actual product registered in the EPA under the number 64881-3.

If Microbe Shield is a mold-fighting product registered with the EPA, then what was Schongar’s Microb Shield that was used to treat the schools for mold? Well, no one really knows. Whatever treatments that were used by Microb Phase are “not readily apparent.” But Schongar’s lawyer insists, “It was a product that was non-harmful and actually did the job.”

The school districts disagree. They say that the students and staff were just as sick, if not sicker, after the “Microb Phase Process.”

With cases like this, we are reminded that there are people out there who would harm students and swindle the government for an easy buck. The lack of information regarding mold and mold remediation allows such people to thrive and take advantage of others. The mold business has a climate of uncertainty and risk, so you need a remediator you can trust.
