What Oprah Needs to Tell Her Audience about Mold

December 30, 2009

Since Oprah’s influence borders on messianic, this is the best opportunity we could hope for to reach out and educate people on just a few simple facts about mold that could end up saving their lives. Now, I could talk for days about mold, but Oprah only has one hour to get the information across. So I’m going to do the Big O a favor by condensing all the mold info out there to just a few key points that will be most helpful to her audience.

When It Comes to Mold Litigation, Cut Your Losses

December 28, 2009

The apartment replaced Charmaine’s padding, and eventually the carpet. They also supposedly “took care” of the mold growing on her bedroom walls and said that the mold would no longer bother her. This kind of repair would only take care of the visible mold. Mold is also likely growing inside walls, beneath the floor, and other unseen places. It seems the landlord’s actions to find a solution were only cosmetic. Sure enough, mold began creeping up again on her bedroom walls. Charmaine was forced to relocate.

Rush to Build Houses is a Quick Path to Mold

December 24, 2009

Owners of Quadrant-built homes are complaining about numerous things. In one house, a heater is not powerful enough to heat more than the bedroom. In another house, inspectors found that a dryer vent had been routed to the attic but never piped outdoors, allowing mold to grow rampantly in the attic. More than 1,200 square feet of mold is growing in these houses.

Oak Ridge Drama Continues

December 23, 2009

Parents are annoyed that the school seems to endlessly want to research and report on the problem. The school seems hesitant to fix any problem unless an independent report tells them that it needs to be fixed. This is most likely a legal defense. Fixing a problem is an admission of liability so they do not want to admit liability by fixing a problem unless a report clearly states that there is a problem.

The vault contains an endless supply of marijuana, cocaine, and prescription drugs seized by Louisville police. For this reason, the facility is extremely secure. I wonder if making the vault so physically secure contributed to the mold problem by now allowing proper ventilation. An updated ventilation for the vault is being considered to improve indoor air quality.

City Hall Remediation to Cost One Million Dollars

December 15, 2009

If you follow mold news like me then you’ve probably wondered why city halls and courthouses always seem to have mold issues. I’m not sure of the reason, but I have a few theories. It’s not simply because they are old as I can point to many examples of such buildings becoming overrun with mold that are only a few years old.

Building Design Mold Hazard: Vented Crawl Spaces

December 9, 2009

With vented crawl spaces, hot summer days allow hot, humid air to cool in the crawl space. As the air is cooled, the humidity increases within the crawl space. Once the air exceeds 100% humidity it starts condensing on cool surfaces in your crawl space.

When it Comes to Mold, Doctors Are Unreliable

December 1, 2009

Under-informed doctors not only allow the problem to worsen by not immediately identifying the problem, allowing the exposure to continue, but they can even make the problems worse by misdiagnosing and mistreating the illness. I previously wrote about how doctors will misdiagnose a mold infection as a bacterial infection and treat it with antibiotics. But the bacteria in your body are actually necessary to fight off fungal infections. This is like trying to put out a fire with a flamethrower.
